OMG! Just the thought of an episiotomy vs tearing is enough to make me cross my legs!

Years ago, episiotomies were done routinely, because obstetricians believed that having a “clean” cut would heal better than natural tearing following labor – they were especially conducted on first time mothers. Experts also believed it could help other complications after birth such as incontinence.

But the number of routine episitomies has dropped dramatically because studies have found no basis for them. Actually, research has shown the procedure could cause problems instead. As a result, experts, including the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, now state episiotomies should NOT be done routinely.

But let’s ask some experts in NATURAL BIRTH what they think? … And … that comes to our QUESTION OF THE WEEK!
